Our History
A Legacy of Quality Produce, Dedicated to Delivering Fresh Solutions for our Partners since 1955
Today
A Legacy of Excellence

Rooted in integrity, commitment, and passion, the Cipriano family’s enterprises have evolved into a dynamic network of innovative produce companies poised for continued success.
2010
Expansion through satellite facilities and offerings

Gold Bell partnered with other trusted produce companies including, DiMare Fresh located in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Florida to allow for expansion. These partners offered Gold Bell and their customers warehousing, logistics, and repacking all down the east coast and west to Chicago.
Simultaneously, Gold Bell introduced a full line of organic vegetables at a time when organic produce was rapidly gaining popularity. This was a natural fit for Gold Bell as these items were traditionally challenging to source year-round.
Late 20th Century Leadership Transition and Continued Expansion

After Sal’s passing in the mid-1980s, Joanne, James, and Maria continued to grow Arrowfarms and Gold Bell to become major suppliers to retailers in the Northeast and beyond. Both companies worked together to source from elite growers across the U.S., Canada as well as package, and distribute potatoes and onions.
1979
Gold Bell Inc. Established

Sal’s eldest daughter, Joanne Cipriano Dolan, set out to diversify the family business by creating Gold Bell Inc., which became a leader in specialty potatoes, onions, and organic vegetables – placing an emphasis on sourcing traditionally challenging produce.
1957
Arrow Packing Formed
The company was renamed Arrow Packing, shifting focus to potatoes and onions by 1961 as Sal saw greater potential in these crops.

2019
Looking forward to the future
The current and next generation of Gold Bell work together to achieve a seamless leadership transition. This new team includes Joanne’s daughter Marissa Dolan Bleiler, Maria’s daughter-in-law Elizabeth Maggio, and newly appointed CEO Jeff Glennon.
Together, they bring fresh perspectives while honoring Gold Bell’s long-standing values of integrity, innovation, and customer commitment. This transition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the company’s continued growth and evolution.

2002
Acquisition of DiSilva Fruit Company
Arrowfarms acquired DiSilva Fruit Company, a respected citrus leader, helping inspire the Morning Kiss Organic brand focused on innovative organic produce and packaging. This allowed Arrowfarms, Gold Bell, and DiSilva Fruit to offer retailers the option of a one stop shop – being able to supply potatoes, onions, vegetables, and fruits in both Conventional and Organic with customizable private label packaging

1981
Arrow Farms of Maine Founded
Maria Cipriano Maggio and her husband Wayne Maggio purchased Arrowfarms of Maine, introducing broccoli production and creating the largest potato storage and packaging facility in the region throughout the 1980s.

1960–1970
Innovation and Growth
Arrow Packing expanded by adopting state-of-the-art European packaging systems and pioneering the use of Vexar netting, boosting efficiency and product shelf life.

1955
The Beginning
Salvatore Cipriano founded Independent Tomato Company in Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall Market with $27 in his pocket, building the business on integrity, commitment, and passion for produce.
